Building an American V-twin custom is always going to be a major pastime of any professional builder like Lee Wimmer, owner of Wimmer Cycles in Murrels Inlet, South Carolina, who has graced both the pages of the print and online editions of Barnett’s Magazine many, many times. Lee’s not only well known for his huge array of high- performance custom intakes, but is such an accomplished and prolific builder that he’s been inducted into the International Master Bike Builders Association (IMBBA) Hall of Fame. After knocking out just about every variation of V-twin possible, I guess it was time for Lee to think outside the V-twin box and do something different.

Let me start off by saying that I am honored to be writing up a couple of bikes in this issue built by two of the most genuine, positive, down to earth individuals I have met in my five years with Barnett’s. I have been privileged to know Dale Walksler (See ‘36 VEL in this issue) for a few years. But in the past few months I have also had numerous occasions to meet and chat with Lee Wimmer, owner of Wimmer Performance in Murrell’s Inlet, South Carolina, the builder of Shades of Blue…one class act.
